DR. RAKESH KUMAR

M.Tech. in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from RTM Nagpur University.

My Work

After acquiring basic qualification of Environment Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1987, pursued work on developing technologies for automobile pollution control which also led to Ph.D.in Environment Engineering.

“I have worked in different areas of environment with interdisciplinary team within NEERI as well as with other institutions from time to time”.

Cleaner Technology & Environmental Materials

Noble Metal Based Catalytic Converter for the Control of Emissions from Petrol Driven Engines, Evaluation of DPF, DOC and PFF filters for air pollution reduction,

Development of indigenous Catalytic Converter, Diesel Particulate Filter was carried out and demonstrated. This development led to the promulgation of the use of catalytic converters in 1996.

Climate Change and Health Study with WHO. Beside, partner for GHG studies with regard to Carbonaceous Aerosols Programme with IIT Bombay and more than 15 institutions to study.

Collaborative work with USEPA in Water Safety Plan and Composite Correction Programme for water treatment plants and distribution at consumer end was carried out.

Integrated roadmap design for SWM in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Landfill Methane and its utilization. Waste to Energy Feasibility, Judiciary based MSW management for.

Noble Metal Based Catalytic Converter for the Control of Emissions from Petrol Driven Engines, Evaluation of DPF, DOC and PFF filters for air pollution reduction.

Development and application of evaluation methodology in EIA, Audit protocol development for Indian Industries. Environment Assessment for multiple types of projects.

Cost analysis can be the critical process needed to solve management problems Cost analysis can helps to understand how funds have been used, and why expenses are so high (or low) It can help in identifying where their primary support comes from, and whether each source is increasing or decreasing In a setting with diminishing resources, it can provide the information necessary for sensibly cutting a budget
To create awareness among the general population (vulnerable community), health-care providers and Policy makers regarding impacts of climate change on human health. To strengthen capacity of healthcare system to reduce illnesses/ diseases due to variability in climate To strengthen health preparedness and response by performing situational analysis at national/ state/ district/ below district levels. To develop partnerships and create synchrony/ synergy with other missions and ensure that health is adequately represented in the climate change agenda in the country To strengthen research capacity to fill the evidence gap on climate change impact on human health
Burgeoning population, rapid urbanization, climate change and environmental degradation are testing the carrying capacity of the land. Simple and efficient steps in environmental management can take us a long way in restoration of ecosystem degradation.
In order to study the efficiency of fabricated air sampling, a sample dilution chamber was designed, and it worked successfully. The design and fabrication of useful kinds of instruments was also taken up. It was found that the design and fabrication of a portable sampling kit was extremely useful for studying the levels of gaseous elements in the enviroment.
