NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), which over the years didn’t pay heed to the poor condition of Naik Talao, is set to rejuvenate the water body. The standing committee on Wednesday cleared civic administration’s proposal to entrust the rejuvenation work to National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri). Officials from NMC’s Pench project department said that Neeri has prepared a detailed project report about its plans for Naik Talao. Neeri has estimated the cost of rejuvenation at Rs3.83 crore and an additional Rs55 lakh for operation and maintenance for five years. NEERI will use phytorid technology to rejuvenate the lake for which it will construct a sewage treatment plant (STP) with 1.8 million litres per day (MLD) capacity.
Apart from this, the standing panel approved 52 proposals pertaining to various development works. It gave administrative approvals to 10 works worth Rs4.32 crore while clearing 42 work orders worth over Rs156.99 crore.
The panel led by BJP passed the proposals without any discussions owing to programs related to visiting the party’s national executive president JP Nadda.
Approval was also given to the garden department’s proposal to rope in a private firm to plant and maintain saplings alongside newly constructed cement roads.
M/s Rainbow Greeners, which has been entrusted with the job, will plant 2-meter high 11,200 saplings on 88 roads and will maintain them for two years. The NMC will pay over Rs4.94 to the firm. Civic administration’s proposal to construct a shopping mall worth Rs99.79 crore in Sakkardara was also approved.
